Wifi coverage in larger or multi-level buildings can be patchy, especially through concrete or brick. Running cable to wired access points on each floor or at each end of the building gives strong, even coverage. In Botany we plan access point positions with you and cable them back to your router or switch.

Data cabling for Botany's two-storey homes and town centre offices

Many Botany homes are two-storey houses from the late 1990s and 2000s, with internal garages close to the switchboard. That garage wall is often a sensible spot for a small comms cabinet near the fibre entry, with Cat6 runs going up through the ceiling space to bedrooms, an upstairs office and ceiling points for wifi access points. A single router downstairs rarely covers both floors well, so a wired access point on each level usually works better.

Homes from the 1988 to 2004 build period need care at the cladding. Outdoor cameras, gate controllers and doorbells all need a cable through the exterior wall, so we group those penetrations, keep them to a minimum and seal each one. Power over Ethernet helps here, since one data cable powers the camera and no separate outdoor socket is needed.

Newer townhouses around Botany are tighter: smaller ceiling spaces, shared walls with fire separation, and sometimes concrete floors between levels, all of which limit routes. We confirm what is possible at the quote rather than promise points that cannot be reached. Offices and shops near Botany Town Centre and The Hub need desks, meeting rooms and access points cabled back to a rack, and we can add the power circuits the rack and screens need in the same visit, with a Certificate of Compliance for that wiring.

Local tip: If your Botany home has an internal garage, check where the fibre enters before we visit, because placing the cabinet near that point keeps every run shorter.

Data Cabling in Botany: Local Conditions

East Auckland has many larger family homes where wifi struggles to reach every room. We cable lounges, bedrooms and offices, and fit out commercial premises around East Tāmaki and Botany.

Industrial and warehouse sites need data to offices, scanners, cameras and access points across large floors.

Homes in Botany

Botany's houses mostly date from the late 1990s and 2000s, and much of that stock was built between 1988 and 2004, the timber-framed group most affected by the leaky homes crisis. For an electrician that means planning any new outdoor socket, light or EV charger cable so it crosses the cladding as few times as possible, and sealing every penetration. The newer townhouses have modern switchboards, but shared walls, tight garages and body corporate rules shape where a charger or extra circuit can go. Older boards from the first build may have limited RCD coverage.

Botany Town Centre opened in 2001 and the suburb grew up around it.

Our electricians are in and around Gillard Reserve and Botany Library and the rest of Botany most weeks. For everything else, see electricians in Botany.

How We Handle Data Cabling in Botany

Cables are run through ceilings, walls and subfloors, kept clear of power cables and terminated at wall outlets and a patch panel. Every cable is labelled at both ends.

Data Cabling Botany FAQs

Can you run a data cable to an outdoor camera on my plaster-clad Botany house?

Yes. We keep the cladding penetration to one sealed point where possible, and use power over Ethernet so the camera needs no separate outdoor power point.

Can you add TV and HDMI outlets?

Yes. We can run data, TV and HDMI cabling to a lounge or media room so the cables are hidden in the wall.

Is it better to cable during a renovation?

Yes. With walls and ceilings open it is quicker and neater, so we suggest planning data points alongside your power and lighting.
